With one or two exceptions, splash screens will not give your website any kind of boost whatsoever. In fact, it may well harm the site’s conversion and click-through rate.
Splash screens are those introductory screens that appear in place of the website’s home page. There is the need to click through or sometimes wait for a video or animation to complete before you are given entry to the site proper.
The question is, as a website owner, what possible benefits could this provide you with? You are making the customer click or making them wait for absolutely no reason. How many shops have you been in that make you wait outside or watch a corporate video before you can go in?
The only exceptions are if the website is being used as a pure marketing tool. That is, the interactivity of it is based upon users wanting to experience your product rather than buy it. There, different rules apply.
For the rest of us, however, steer clear of any kind of Splash Screen and make sure you customers get a proper website experience and you get the benefit of a high conversion rate.
