Things Website Owners Should Know: SideWiki

Heard of Google SideWiki? If you haven't, and you own a website then you really should find out read on and find out more about it.

In a nutshell, SideWiki allows website visitors to post comments about the page that they are viewing for others to see. Yes, this means that your blog, services page or product page might be receiving reviews without your knowledge.

The first thing you should do is to be aware of what is being written. While there are a number of ways of viewing the information perhaps the easiest is to install the Google Toolbar and, whilst looking at your site's pages, click the SideWiki button.

The other thing you can do is to register your domain with Google Webmaster Tools. This allows Google to acknowledge you as the domain owner and you can, amongst other things, post comments that appear on every page. Here's some more information from Google.

Remember that social media such as Wikis can be a double edged sword so make sure you keep an eye on what is being said and respond if and when appropriate.
